On March 3, 2011 the FDA informed the medical community about an increased risk of children developing cleft palate or cleft lip when their mothers were taking a drug called Topamax. According to the FDA, new data shows expecting mothers taking the drug were almost 20 times more likey to have children born with cleft lips or cleft deformities.
